Interactive workshops to become an expert volunteer trainer
PraxisAuril training courses are a vital resource for Knowledge Exchange (KE) and Commercialisation in the UK and beyond. All these programmes depend on the volunteer contributor trainers, Course Directors and co-Course Directors who put so much effort into designing, planning and delivering them.
Consider how your professional development could be enhanced by becoming a trainer
We would like people from all aspects of the impact and innovation sector. That includes experts from service providers, as well as people working in academic, public sector research organisations, the NHS and related organisations and private sector specialists. The important thing is that you are a practitioner with at least 3 years of experience in a relevant role.
The training provided offers support for all levels:
New Contributor Trainers
A first step in learning the fundamentals of effective training; practical tips on designing and delivering effective training
Co-Course Directors
This course is designed for potential co-Course Directors and experienced PraxisAuril trainers ready to take on more responsibility.
Course Directors
For current and prospective Course Directors, we provide an opportunity to share thoughts and contributions, asking big questions around assessing and improving, the role of the Course Director (at the venue), how to set a good learning objective and supporting your Contributor Trainers .
New Contributor Trainers: Level One
This one-day workshop will help you understand the hallmarks of effective training. The highly interactive, hands-on programme will include opportunities to try out new skills in a ‘safe’ and mutually supportive environment.
You’ll be shown a clear methodology for designing, preparing and delivering a training session. The course includes many practical ideas for creating engaging materials, slides and exercises: to help you deliver effective and relevant training to delegates on PraxisAuril programmes. If you’re keen to know more about PraxisAuril’s approach to training and our overall philosophy – and to become an effective contributor to PraxisAuril’s training programmes – this is the ideal opportunity to boost your skills and confidence.
PLEASE NOTE: There will be a requirement for delegates to undertake some pre-course preparation before the course begins

Co-Course Director: Level Two
Recognising the importance of their contribution, PraxisAuril has created a one-day interactive workshop for current and potential co-Course Directors. It aims to help attendees fully understand the role of the co-Course Director, so they can provide effective support to their Course Director and increasingly take on a range of tasks in the design, development and successful delivery of the programme. Attendance at this workshop is by invitation only as the delegate cohort is kept deliberately small for maximum participation and impact.
PLEASE NOTE: There will be a requirement for delegates to undertake some pre-course preparation before the course begins
Expectations and outcomes
- Understand the PraxisAuril training philosophy and Continuous Improvement Process (CIP) and how to apply them
- Become an effective ‘ambassador’ for this methodology, ready and able to communicate it to everyone involved in delivering the programme
- Understand course and session ‘learning objectives’ and be able to design appropriate objectives
- Learn how to provide effective support to your Course Director and understand which tasks you may be able to take on
- Be better able to create and develop effective training sessions within the overall ‘story’ of a PraxisAuril programme
Course Director: Level Three
This half day forum is also by invitation only, and offers a highly participative sharing of experiences. Some attendees will be fairly new to course directing, others ‘old hands’; but all benefit from sharing what works and what doesn’t. The forum is facilitated by a knowledge exchange specialist and attendees are encouraged to be ready to make constructive contributions to the discussion, and to share ideas, experiences and good practice.
PLEASE NOTE: There will be a requirement for delegates to undertake some pre-course preparation before the course begins
Expectations and outcomes
- Have a clear understanding of how to storyboard
- Better understand learning objectives and how to set them
- Delivery methods – there are at least 14 used regularly throughout PraxisAuril courses
- Time-related issues of designing and running a course
- Engaging your delegates
- What to do when things get tough
