Student Enterprise Manager: University of Surrey

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a small team in delivering a busy, dynamic programme of extra-curricular enterprise activities on campus. The Student Enterprise department is one that champions and celebrates entrepreneurial activity amongst students and recent graduates and key activities consist of the overall responsibility for all student enterprise activities, physical spaces and budget, including the oversight of a £2million inter-University intrapreneurial training and placement programme, and managing digital intern programmes, cyclical student prize allocation, the entrepreneurial placement year option and more!

The role consists of two distinct elements, from the organisational, strategic and data collection to face-to-face delivery and enterprise mentorship. The post holder will be the key point of contact for all enquiries regarding student enterprise activities, maintaining a strong visibility for the department at every opportunity, promoting the programme and its achievements via own channels and by working with marketing colleagues to ensure wider coverage.

1.The successful candidate will be required to source, schedule and book appropriate workshops, bootcamps and judging panels within a set budget and timeframe, with consideration for the academic schedule of students. They will be responsible for managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders including the academic community, advancement team, local SMEs and philanthropic funders.

2.The role also requires delivery of workshops and presentations to both student and professional/academic audiences, plus 1:1 mentorship and signposting to entrepreneurial students at different stages, from skill-building, to ideation, venture creation and business development.

There are several opportunities in the coming year to start extra initiatives to increase engagement of students via new departmental links, and the post holder would be given the freedom to visualise and shape these programmes inline with the objectives of Student Enterprise.

Other key responsibilities for the role include participation in the SETsquared Student Enterprise practice group, managerial responsibilities covering one direct report, one consultant and several part-time student assistant roles, plus the role of Enactus Advisor for the University social enterprise team.

Candidates will require high-energy and enthusiasm, plus strengths in event planning and management, organisational skills and strategic-thinking along with great interpersonal skills, enjoyment of public speaking and a passion for working with young people to develop their potential – particularly in the entrepreneurial arena.

We acknowledge, accept, embrace and celebrate diversity and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds.
