The Medical Innovation & Commercialisation Accelerator Programme’ (MedIComm) is a new dynamic ERDF Business Growth project. It is a collaboration between UCLan and Lancashire NHS trusts to identify commercially viable Med-tech products and service innovations in the Hospitals and Universities and to either spin out into new companies or license the IP to 3rd party companies to develop these innovations into commercially viable products and services that meet a clinical need.

The Commercial Manager post is an opportunity to be part of a new team of commercialisation professionals that are helping clinical innovators and entrepreneurs commercialise their research via new spin out companies or licensing the innovations to 3rd parties. The successful candidate will take a lead role in commercialising IP derived from the project, by exploring opportunities to exploit that IP. You will:

Have experience of taking IP/innovations to market within a commercial environment.

Have direct experience and a thorough understanding of IP protection, licensing, and commercialisation issues.

Demonstrable ability to implement a commercialisation strategy.

Demonstrate abilities to evaluate commercial opportunities and associated risk, mitigating and managing risk when required.

Have experience of working within complex environments and comfortable working in a dynamic network of other members of the MedIComm team, colleagues throughout the Trust, clinical research teams, commercialisation and IP specialists and commercial partners.

Working knowledge of how to conduct market research and analysis including the creation of detailed business plans.

Solid understanding of market research methods and analysis.

Excellent instincts and commercial awareness coupled with a strategic mindset to maximise commercial returns.

Educated to degree level in a STEM Subject or equivalent.
