PraxisUnico: What Industry Wants From Academia, 7-8 May Event Report

Read the report here.

PraxisUnico's "What Industry Wants From Academia" was the largest UK networking event of its type, with more than 70 universities and research institutes represented and over 30 major technology driven companies from a broad range of sectors presenting. Industry speakers described R&D within their companies and and how academic research fits into this. Key themes included the attraction to companies of the world-class research in the UK, the access to emerging talent, the appetite in the UK research community to work with industry to see research translated into application and the increasing ease of working with UK universities.

Industry and research base delegates described the event as the most effective way they had encountered to make a large number of new and relevant contacts. Over the two day programme, the sessions and associated networking prompted a rich dialogue and promoted a better understanding for academia and industry alike of partnership models and interests. The keynote talks included Sir John O'Reilly Director General, Knowledge and Innovation at BIS setting out a vision for the future keyed to the importance of UK research and Rosa Wilkinson, Director of Innovation at the IPO launching the report on the evaluation of the impacts of the Lambert Toolkit - 'Collaborative Research between Business and Universities: The Lambert Toolkit 8 Years On'
