The Scottish Approach: University Technology

Scotland's prestigious, world-class universities drive innovation and are experienced in the commercialisation of research and technology.

University Technology is a unique collaboration bringing together all of Scotland’s universities to showcase their constant portfolio of technology licensing opportunities. This single location enables companies and investors to find these innovative technologies which are developed for key industry sectors and are available for the commercial market now.

A great example of an opportunity found through University Technology and developed further by an industry partner is Dermofit, a pioneering digital application from the University of Edinburgh. This application comprised of an extensive image library with algorithms to accurately identify malignant and benign skin lesions and skin growths at an early stage. This technology was licensed to Simedics Limited, a Yorkshire based company specializing in digital products and publishing for the healthcare and public sector services, who have developed the technology further and is now being used to train medical professionals in the early diagnosis of skin cancer.

University Technology’s web portal aims to simplify the technology transfer process and make it even easier for you to work with Scotland’s universities by providing: all technology opportunities in one convenient location; opportunities from a wide technology base; a simple searchable database; automatic email alerts; and a standardised set of agreements.
