The role of Deputy Director, Commercialisation of Research is a unique opportunity to influence research policy and delivery on a national stage, within the UK’s largest public research funding organisation. It will sit under UK Research and Innovation  (UKRI) which is a new entity that brings together nine partners to create an independent organisation with a strong voice for research and innovation, and a vision to ensure the UK maintains its world-leading position in research and innovation.

 

As Deputy Director you will:

  • Work with the Director of Commercialisation of Research, and across UKRI to develop, champion and deliver its vision and approach for commercialisation
  • Provide leadership and management to the new cross-council commercialisation team to provide a central UKRI commercialisation function
  • Lead a range of initiatives and work-streams, which includes working across UKRI to ensure an accessible continuum of responsive funding for commercialisation
  • Work across UKRI, and with the UKRI community and partners to ensure that UKRI is working effectively within the broader research and innovation ecosystem and to create the best possibly commercialisation environment.

About you

You will have an understanding of research and commercialisation of research and of the cultures and environments that underpin successful commercialisation. You will also have understanding of collaborations between researchers and industry, and of successful commercialisation of research; and of the role of publicly-funded research and innovation in the UK.

Experience of managing budgets and the exercise of financial control as well as working as a member of a team at a high level in an organisation (or similar) would be helpful.
