Commercial Funding Manager

Salary:  £34,804 - £40,322 per annum – Grade 7

 

The University’s Research and Innovation Directorate is looking for an experienced consultancy and contract research manager to join our team to support the commercial exploitation of research and knowledge exchange opportunities at the University.

 

The Research and Innovation Directorate plays a crucial role in supporting the University secure funding for research across a diverse range of disciplines from the creative arts to medicine. We work closely with academics in the creation of impactful relationships between them and external organisations, including the development and delivery of commercial opportunities. With an ambitious Institutional strategy around research excellence, and knowledge exchange, this role is central to our mission and represents an exciting opportunity to develop and deliver commercial funding as part of a dynamic and motivated team sitting at the heart of the University.

 

Reporting to the Senior Commercial Funding Manager, you will provide support to academics looking to undertake consultancy, commercial research and other funded programmes of work, and work to boost interest in commercial opportunities. You will manage all aspects of project development and contracting, including identifying opportunities, working with academic colleagues to competitively tender for contracts, undertaking contract negotiation, risk management, and supporting the commercialisation of intellectual property.

 

A particularly important aspect of this role is establishing and maintaining positive relationships with academic colleagues and external clients and ensuring that projects are delivered successfully. The role requires a creative, proactive approach to problem solving. You must be able to use your experience to help realise the commercial potential of opportunities presented from a variety of sources, as well as being well organised, with the ability to prioritise work effectively, and work under pressure to deliver against competing deadlines.

This is a full-time position working 37 hours per week on a permanent basis.

A successful external candidate for this position would be employed by the University of Plymouth Services Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Plymouth.
