Salary: £26,000 - £29,000

Are you a passionate research scientist with a background in Oncology Cell Biology looking to develop skills in drug discovery?

In collaboration with AstraZeneca, Cancer Research UK (CRUK) has established a pioneering laboratory in Cambridge. The lab deploys cutting edge technologies in order to generate candidate therapeutics, diagnostics and reagent tools. This exciting venture takes AstraZeneca’s leading discovery technologies and combine them with biological targets arising from CRUK’s extensive network of academic investigators.


Why we need you?

We are now seeking a research scientist with experience of Oncology cell based assays to play an important  role in the Oncology cell based assay group of the Alliance Laboratory. The post holder will be part of a multi-disciplinary research team focussed on identifying and characterising biotherapeutic candidates to oncology targets and driving onward development to preclinical proof of concept.


What will I be doing?

  • Maintaining mammalian cell line cultures
  • Running screening assays to characterise antibodies as part the drug discovery cascade
  • Performing cell based experiments to validate and better understand biology of drug targets. Characterising cell lines  Generating cell lines  
  • Building excellent working relationships within a laboratory


What skills do I need?

  • Experience with aspectic technique to enable routine growth of mammalian cell lines is essential.
  • Experience running cell based assays within the context of drug is desirable – ideally with antibodies, but experience of small molecules will be considered beneficial.
  • Familiarity with cell based technologies such as Flow Cytometry would be beneficial.
  • Knowledge of recombinant protein assays including ELISA and HTRF is desirable. 
  • Ability to clearly communicate scientific objectives and project results
