The finalists of the 2018 IET Innovation Awards have been announced! Chosen from over 350 original entries, the shortlist includes life-changing innovations in categories including Communications, Healthcare, Sustainability, Manufacturing and Technology Transfer. The winners will be announced at an exclusive black-tie ceremony, hosted by comedy actor and writer Sally Phillips. Carbogenics, a spin out from the University of Edinburgh has secured the coveted first prize at the 2018 Converge Challenge awards with their innovative waste solution. Turning low value paper waste products into a carbon-rich material, their revolutionary product CreChar improves biogas production and enhances digestate as a sustainable alternative to energy-intense mineral fertilisers.

Central Queensland University is leading a cross-institutional research project that investigates the continuing low level of collaboration between industry and the research sector. It is a fundamental first step in developing stakeholder-driven strategies to more effectively facilitate collaborative partnerships. The project is funded by a grant from Central Queensland University and has been approved by the Central Queensland University Human Research Ethics Committee, approval number 21006.
