PraxisUnico welcomes the report of the Business, Innovation and Skills Committee and the recognition that the review gives to the UK R&D system. We reiterate the importance of protecting the underpinning research in universities that is such a strength of the UK and strongly endorse the recommendation that funding should not be diverted from the science budget in order to protect the UK’s reputation for basic research, and innovation consequent from it.

Cambridge, 18 July 2013 – A letter drafted by the UK’s leading bodies supporting innovation and the commercialisation of public sector and charity research for social and economic impact has highlighted significant issues with the European Regional Development Fund programme (ERDF). PraxisUnico, AURIL and ARMA believe that ERDF is compromising the university sector’s engagement in local economic development. The letter, addressed to the Rt Hon Michael Fallon MP and copied to other Government ministers and senior officials, outlines six key issues and suggests how these might be overcome.

On the 17 September PraxisUnico celebrated 10 years of success and was delighted to have as its keynote speakers the Rt Hon David Willetts MP, Minister of State for Universities and Science and Sir Richard Lambert the former Director-General of the CBI (currently Chancellor of the University of Warwick) at a House of Commons reception for 170 key sector stakeholders. This reception marked 10 years of technology/knowledge transfer training by PraxisUnico.
