PraxisUnico welcomes HEFCE announcement of £600 million funding for innovation

In response to today’s HEFCE announcement of HEIF allocations, Dr Phil Clare, PraxisUnico Chair, said:

“PraxisUnico welcomes today’s announcement by HEFCE of the £600m of HEIF funding.  We value the continued recognition by the government of the impact of high quality university research and education on the economy and society.  This firm commitment to the HEIF funding stream will enable the university sector to continue its programme of investment in knowledge exchange, improving the interface between universities and businesses, and allowing wider access to the knowledge and innovation that continually flows from universities’ activities.

We acknowledge that difficult times require difficult choices and strategic decisions; overall, however, the importance of this statement, backed up by investment, is paramount: universities are at the heart of innovation in the UK, and the government intends them to remain there.  We are pleased that universities continue to be encouraged to use their HEIF funding flexibly and creatively, underpinning a wide variety of knowledge transfer activities extending well beyond those few things we are able to measure.”
