The Knowledge Exchange Team at Cranfield University invite you to join the Knowledge Exchange Best Practice Group for its second meeting on Tuesday, 5th November 2019.
This Group has been established to provide a forum where KE practitioners in higher education have an opportunity to discuss best practice, gain insights and updates on the KE landscape and build a support network. The Group meets twice per year in London and is free to attend (you only need to cover your travel). Future agendas will be shaped by the Group alongside decisions on future invited speakers to engage in topics of interest.
The focus of the second meeting will be career development for KE professionals, and the UK Industrial Strategy.
The meeting will take place at the Knowledge Transfer Network, Faraday Room, Business Design Centre (52 Upper St, The Angel, London N1 0QH). We will have Jennie Shorley (Associate Head for Research and Knowledge Exchange and Academic Impact Lead in the Faculty of Business and Law, Manchester Metropolitan University) in attendance to run a one-hour practical workshop on career development for KE professionals. Jennie is also on the Board of PraxisAuril, is Deputy Chair of its Professional Development Committee and leads the mentoring scheme. We will look at a framework of skills and behaviours which has been developed to reflect what those working in KE do. We will explore your role in terms of this framework, and where you want to be, as well as how your team and university “does” knowledge exchange, and where your skills may be further put to good use to support your institution and develop your career. We will also discuss the implications of the external environment on your career development, how to work towards the Industrial Strategy, including funding opportunities, and the Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF) and the Research Excellence Framework (REF).
A representative from the BEIS Industrial Strategy team will also be joining us to provide an update on, and discuss, the Industrial Strategy. Please find a full agenda below.
Lunch will be provided alongside a chance to network with colleagues from other institutions. To confirm your attendance, please email Kala Kennedy, Knowledge Exchange Facilitator (email@example.com) by Wednesday, 30 October 2019 indicating any dietary requirements. Registration will be on a first come, first serve basis as space is limited; if there is a high level of interest, attendance will be limited to one attendee per institution.
Please feel free to share this opportunity with other KE colleagues in your institutions – we look forward to seeing you there!
