Armourers & Brasiers open their 2016 Competition with £25,000 prize

The application period is now open for the 2016 Armourers & Brasiers Materials Science Venture Prize.

The prize is worth £25,000 in the form of an investment and is awarded to take forward the commercialisation of innovative research in Materials Science.

Applications are invited from UK-based Materials Scientists and should be submitted on the Venture Prize application form by 18th March 2016.  The application process is straightforward – the form is structured as a short outline business plan.

The Venture Prize application form is available from the Armourers & Brasiers’ Company website – where further information can also be found about the objectives of the prize and about previous winners.  These include projects originating from the following universities: Cambridge, Liverpool, UCL, Sheffield Hallam, Oxford, Queen Mary University of London, Aberdeen and Bristol.

The Armourers & Brasiers’ Company is a livery company of the City of London and a leading supporter of Materials Science education and research in the UK.  The Company launched its Venture Prize in 2008, having realised that it is often difficult to find investment funding for the early stages of commercialising novel materials technologies.  The Venture Prize is a commercial investment by the Company and is intended to encourage entrepreneurship in Materials Science.  Amongst other things, the Armourers & Brasiers’ Company, through its Gauntlet Trust, also funds undergraduate prizes for achievement on Materials Science courses, and conference travel grants for PhD students in Materials Science.
