Delegate Perspective: China Training

Feng Wu is a recent delegate from PraxisUnico's cohort training in China. Last week she visited the UK and took part in some IP workshops, and shares some of her perspectives.

Feng Wu  works in a technology transfer consultancy, which connects companies who have compatible needs.  The consultancy helps the companies leverage the technological opportunities to raise funding. Here she shares some of her perspectives on her experience of PraxisUnico's international training.

Q.  Why did you decide to join the training course?

My consultancy is carrying out much more work for universities than in the past, and wanted to find training that would cover the specialist knowledge and skills we would need.

Q.  What were the most useful things you learnt on the course?

There were so many!  But the ones that I think will really make a difference were technology readiness levels; the Lambert toolkit; writing a business plan; understanding investment models

Q. What impact has the training had on you?

The personal impact for me has been really large.  Before I just focussed on valuation of technology and I didn’t really fit this in to the bigger picture.  Now I have a vision of the whole business cycle – this has really changed the way the direction and methods of how I work.

Q.  What have been your major impressions from this study trip of the UK in terms of technology transfer?

The cultural environment for technology transfer in the UK is so different from China.  The UK is focussed on the social and human effects of technology transfer, and not just the financial/economic ones.  I think this is really good.

Q.  How has the trip been useful for you?

I’ve made new connections with potential Chinese partners while I have been here in the UK, and the combination of these with the new people I met during the training is great for giving me new contacts for business.  In the UK I’ve also learned more about other service providers such as CBBC and this will help me to support our international business ambitions.

Q.  Anything you’d like to tell our UK members about working with Chinese businesses and organisations?

Get to know China properly, the way we are trying to get to know the UK.

Q.  Any last comments on the training course?

I hope more people will study this course in China.  It will improve their abilities and make them more effective. I really liked the training style, it made everything so easy to learn  It was very different from the Chinese style of training we are used to.
