UK Dementia Research Institute - Director of Innovation and Business

Dementia is the greatest health challenge of our century.

To date there is no way to prevent it or even slow its progression, and there is an urgent need to fill the knowledge gap in our basic understanding of the diseases that cause it.

The UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI) is the biggest UK initiative driving forward research to fill this gap.

The UK DRI Headquarters team is based at UCL yet works across all six of the UK DRI host institutions. Collectively the HQ team is responsible for making the distributed UK DRI community function as a single institute, with a shared culture of intensely collaborative research.

The UK DRI is seeking a Director of Innovation and Business to cover a period of maternity leave. The Director of Innovation and Business is a critical role within the UK DRI HQ team, responsible for leading our Innovation and Business team and overseeing our Technology Transfer (TT) policies and procedures. This is an exciting opportunity, and you’ll be involved in a variety of key areas including managing our TT activities, educating our research community on TT potential, negotiating and managing licences and other partnerships, and building a valuable TT and IP portfolio across our host universities to fully exploit discoveries emerging from our world-class research activities.

The post is a maternity cover and so is available from late February/early March 2022 and funded until early January 2023.
Key Requirements
You will have experience of designing and delivering a broad-based TT strategy within a biomedical operation, coupled with experience of identifying, protecting, and managing IP and out-licensing university discoveries and negotiating licenses, terms, awards and other contracts between academia and industry. You will have a good understanding of biomedical neuroscience, be adept at managing teams and resources, and have the ability and confidence to communicate, build relationships, and deal effectively and professionally with colleagues and external stakeholders at all levels.
