Senior Contracts Officer

The Research Contracts Office, a small and friendly team within Research Services at Lancaster University, are looking for a motivated Senior Contracts Officer to contribute to the smooth running of the University’s research and enterprise engagement activity. 

This role is a full time, indefinite role with the offer of flexible working from home or remotely for part or most of the time.  This is an exciting opportunity and comes with a great annual leave allowance with the option to purchase additional annual leave, along with the offer to join the USS pension scheme which is a very generous employer contributory pension. 

Research Services is part of the University’s Research and Enterprise Services Division and provides expert advice, guidance and administrative support to Lancaster University’s research community in the development of bids for externally funded research and the administration of successfully awarded grants and contracts. The team provides a range of research support activities at both pre- and post-award including advice on funders terms and conditions, proposal preparation, costing and pricing and post-award grant administration for research grants and contracts from a diverse range of researcher funders.

This role involves negotiating and drafting formal research, enterprise and engagement related contracts with a wide variety of funding bodies and collaborators, which balance risks with acceptable contractual obligations. The job requires negotiations with counterparts at senior levels in funding organisations and in other universities. 

You will need to have a flexible, positive and proactive approach and have excellent interpersonal and communications skills.  Sound legal knowledge and experience of contract analysis and negotiations as well as a high degree of professionalism are also essential to the role.
