Senior Contracts Manager: MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology - Cambridge

The LMB is seeking a Senior Contracts Manager to lead a team in supporting scientific staff at LMB for research contracts and agreements, technology transfer, industrial collaborations, strategic partnerships and external funding applications. The team also provides advice in the requirements of research ethics and research governance policies.

You will also ensure compliance with research governance legislation and ethics policies, make risk-based judgements in respect of drafting research collaboration agreements, review grant funding terms, and promote best practice and guidance.

Key to the success of this role will be the ability to combine an understanding of the research of the LMB, and the potential and implications for collaboration or exploitation, with extensive experience of research contract negotiation and management in this fast-paced environment.

Candidates should have a first degree or equivalent, preferably in a biological or related science subject. Experience or a higher degree in biological research, or a qualification in law, would be desirable. You should also have extensive experience of contract drafting, vetting, approval and management in a research environment. You should have strong analytical abilities and a good understanding of intellectual property rights.

You will be expected to demonstrate the ability to put across difficult concepts or different points of view while retaining the confidence of senior staff.  You should have well developed negotiating skills, and be able to respond quickly during discussions. You should be a good team player, organised with good line management skills and have an eye for detail.
