Research & Innovation Development Coordinator (Bragg/Royce): University of Leeds

Bragg Centre for Materials Research and Royce at Leeds

Are you an experienced and ambitious professional looking to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research intensive Universities? Are you confident and outgoing, and keen to help progress research and innovation in advanced materials through building excellent working relationships with academic and industrial colleagues? Do you have a background in science and engineering and are you keen to help develop and deliver high value and high quality funding applications?

We are looking for a professional and proactive individual to support the development of two major initiatives in the University of Leeds — the University’s Bragg Centre for Materials Research, and ‘Royce at Leeds’, the Leeds spoke of the national Henry Royce Institute for Advanced Materials. Working with the Centre Director and the Research & Innovation Development team, you will develop research funding opportunities, and manage relationships with world-leading academics, industry representatives and funding bodies. You will help to maximise research impact and external income, and support ongoing research, promotional and reporting activities. You will work closely with the Henry Royce Institute of Advanced Materials, of which Leeds is a Founding Partner. Your role will be vital both in engaging the Bragg Centre’s (>200) members, and in building on the Centre’s reputation as a place in which to conduct world-leading material science research.

Playing a key role in supporting and implementing the strategic plans for both the Bragg Centre and Royce at Leeds, you will proactively develop new research and innovation opportunities, horizon-scan and gather intelligence on emergent activities and capitalise on such opportunities. You will have expertise specific to the Bragg Centre’s research and will support relationships with a wide range of world leading academics, industry, and research and innovation support staff, across the University and in our UK and international partner institutions. In particular, you will support the development of industrial opportunities, and provide direct support for the University’s research and specialist facilities to maximise the value of the Centre’s strategic partnerships. The role will embrace substantive engagement, reporting and administrative functions, and necessitate interactions with a wide range of stakeholders across and beyond the University of Leeds including senior academics and early career researchers, marketing and communications, facility managers and technical staff, research and innovation professionals, and professional support staff.

You will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be able to show initiative and creativity, and have the ability to deal diplomatically and effectively with a range of stakeholders both internal and external to the University.

You will hold a degree (or equivalent) in Physical Sciences, Materials Science or Engineering, or a related discipline, or have relevant experience in industry, and you will have a significant interest in developing research and innovation in complex organisations.
