Purpose of the role
Working within Clean Energy & Built Environment team, the applicant must have demonstrable energy sector technical expertise. They should have a particular focus on energy systems, clean energy generation (in particular Solar PV), grid infrastructure and/or energy storage. The applicant will have strong knowledge of the innovation landscape and ideally have established personal networks through which innovative approaches may be adopted. This should be clear in the application along with supporting evidence.
This role will lead and deliver programmes of work to enable business transformation and implementation of new Energy and Built Environment solutions. With industry experience, the post holder should be able to work effectively with industry leaders and senior government officials. You will be quick-thinking, proactive and experienced in operating in a dynamic environment.
This role will work cross-sectorally in support of the IUK Business Connect Innovation Exchange (iX) programme as well as supporting CE&BE team activity in the energy & infrastructure sectors.
Key responsibilities
- You will play an integral role in helping develop UK’s energy innovation ecosystem.
- You will be an active participant in Innovate UK Business Connect's Innovation Exchange (iX) programme that helps challenge holders find solutions to real world problems and increase their productivity.
- Supporting the delivery of central initiatives such as the OFGEM Strategic Innovation Fund. You will have the responsibility of engaging with a range of stakeholders across the value chain and connect where appropriate to enable business transformation.
- Support Clean Energy & Built Environment team programmes such as the Hydrogen & Cross-Sector Battery Systems Innovation Networks.
- Lead on workshops/programme delivery, with high levels of company seniority or complexity.
- Facilitate networking opportunities for industry to meet with peers and potential collaborators through the organisation of workshops, exhibitions, conferences and meetings.
- Meet with companies, research institutions and universities, in the UK, to understand their R&D needs and innovation capabilities (face to face or online).
- Provide specialist knowledge and expertise to cross-IUK Business Connect programmes and projects.
- Develop and maintain a broad knowledge of government’s policies to ensure the relevant context is maintained to support and drive effective activities.
- Be continuously aware of the latest research and information as well as gathering and analysing insights to inform future programmes of work.
- Draft correspondence, produce presentations and reports with technical context and proofread documents with a high attention to detail.
- Deliver key business metrics agreed with the line manager, and to track progress, capturing outcomes and impact.
- Undertake reporting obligations in line with IUK Business Connect goals for impact measurement.
Experience
- Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of the energy sector landscape and technologies. Experience working in the energy industry, especially in an innovation context, is preferable.
- Exceptional stakeholder management skills with a proven ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders. A candidate with a strong personal network of stakeholders is desirable.
- Experience in managing/leading projects/programmes.
- Able to produce written documents to a high standard.
- Demonstrable financial knowledge to provide effective management of project budgets.
- Experience of government policies and research and innovation strategies.
- Confident in working closely with diverse senior leaders or groups internally and externally, with an ability to persuade, influence and motivate people and teams at all levels.
- Able to identify opportunities and design effective activities to deliver business transformation.
