Knowledge Exchange Executive: The Pirbright Institute

The Pirbright Institute delivers world-leading research to understand, predict, detect and respond to viral disease outbreaks. We study viruses of livestock that are endemic and exotic to the UK, including zoonotic viruses, by using the most advanced tools and technologies to understand hostpathogen interactions in animals and arthropod vectors. Organisation position and purpose: 
 
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and resourceful individual to be involved in the knowledge exchange and commercialisation team. The team provides the Institute with the necessary support and continuity for existing technology transfer and commercialisation activities and develops new initiatives in knowledge exchange and commercialisation (KE&C).  


Main duties and responsibility  
 
 
This post will work on a range of activities including:  

  
• identification and management of Intellectual Property  
• identification and establishment of new opportunities in KE&C.  
• help manage the existing portfolio of contracts and collaborations with commercial partners, non-governmental agencies and public sector organisations  
• provide project management support to research scientists engaged with commercially sponsored R&D

Specific skills  Essential  • Ability to work in a team, independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team • Ability to influence and persuade through written and oral means  • Highly organised with an ability to prioritise work and work to strict deadlines • IT skills in particular Microsoft packages including (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 
 
Personal Skills Essential  • Time management skills • Reliability under pressure • Decision making and problem solving skills • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
 
Desirable  • Highly developed negotiation and conciliation skills 
 
 
Qualifications and Experience  Essential  • Bachelor’s degree in a life science subject or equivalent experience • Public sector or commercial life sciences experience • Experience in IP management or commercialisation 
 
Desirable  • Experience with IP contract negotiations • Experience in project management 

 
 
Due to the nature of the work we do, all successful applicants will be required to go through a comprehensive screening process including reference and qualification checks, financial and security clearances.  
 
 
Specific requirements 
 
Capacity to travel within UK and occasional overnight stays
