Key Partnerships Manager

What will you be doing?

You will manage a portfolio of the University’s complex, long-term key partnerships, which span all of the institution’s activities, including research, teaching, commercial, and more.

You will not only develop and manage these relationships at all levels of seniority; you will work with those involved in each partnership to identify and drive mutually beneficial agendas and priorities. You will help to identify who has the expertise at the University to address the partner’s needs, and the best ways to engage that expertise, including co-developing and coordinating new collaborative opportunities with the partner. You will help to manage the operational aspects of the collaborative activities that are set up, and you will be the University’s key point of contact for each partnership. You will also lead on the ongoing evaluation of each partnership in your portfolio.

Together with the other Key Partnerships Managers, you will also take a leading role in working with staff from across the University to further develop the UoB approach to developing and managing key partnerships to deliver tangible outcomes. You will manage a specialist aspect of the team’s internal activities to support this approach.

The role

The Research and Enterprise Partnerships Team oversees and coordinates the management of the University’s portfolio of key partnerships with external companies, organisations and communities.

Together with colleagues across the University, the team is developing networks, capabilities, resources and processes to enable academics and professional services staff engaged in all types of partnerships to support UoB in delivering on its partnership ambitions. These include ensuring that our key partnerships deliver value to the institution in every sense, driving innovation, and strengthening the University’s global research and brand profile.

You should apply if

You are enthusiastic about engaging universities and research with the wider world and are flexible, organised, collaborative and able to manage risks, resolve problems and deliver results in a challenging environment.

You should have previous experience in relevant roles involving the management of complex, long-term partnerships between organisations. This may have been in a university role with external organisations, or outside the higher education sector, but an understanding of the drivers, culture and processes within the higher education sector is a definite advantage. Experience of project and change management is important, as is an appreciation of tools for these and other aspects of business management.

We are looking for somebody who is keen to focus on both maintaining and developing their allocated partnerships, and on contributing to the team’s shared work to develop and support the partnership culture at the University.
