About the role

Innovation Managers help us to commercialise our ground-breaking science! They play a meaningful role in helping to advance breakthrough innovations that are crafted by scientists and engineers at the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) National Laboratories. Operating from within the dynamic and fast-paced Innovation team, the Innovation Manager will support our impact-orientated mission by leading on the exploitation of STFC technologies for economic and societal impact. This role will lead on delivering the day-to-day requirements for successful evaluation of opportunities, development of commercialisation plans, identification of licensees and investors, to secure license deals, company venture formation, and commercial collaborations.

Your role as Innovation Manager will be to develop technology commercialisation plans, including early-stage commercialisation strategies, value proposition validation, and business case development. You will identify and develop relationships with potential commercial partners and support marketing activities to generate interest in our technologies. In collaboration with other team members, you will prepare business plans and develop and execute implementation plans to spinout a new company.

We are looking for someone to work closely with our Intellectual Property team to evaluate invention disclosures and provide input to align the protection strategies with the market opportunity. You will articulate the value proposition of our innovations into an exploitation strategy and build persuasive promotional materials to attract the interest of a diverse range of potential licensees for our technologies.

 

About You

We are looking for someone with experience in technology transfer, innovation scouting, or an equivalent subject area. You will have highly developed inter-personal skills and a demonstrated ability to identify and develop relationships with potential commercial partners. You will also have strong communication skills for technical and business audiences to develop concept understanding and uncover opportunities.

You will have significant experience of evaluating and developing plans to commercialise deep tech opportunities and have experience in the management of the process for negotiating and securing licence deals for these opportunities. This role requires someone with a high level of knowledge of Intellectual Property Rights and how it may be used to generate impact for STFC. You will be comfortable producing financial plans for licence return on investment and spinout propositions, with previous contractual experience.
