Based in our Faculty of Engineering, you will be supporting the Industry Partnerships and Commercialisation (IPC) team, working with influencing world-leading academics to assess incoming invention disclosures from Engineering Departments, carrying out intellectual property searches and market research, assisting with filing and maintenance of patents, coordinating the review of existing IP portfolios and supporting prospecting activities through marketing and communications of the University’s technologies as required by the team.

You will gain experience of technology commercialisation and support the team on a broad range of projects. The main aim of our team is to maximise the impact of Imperial’s  academic discoveries by stimulating, identifying, managing, and progressing opportunities to develop research and technologies through collaboration and commercialisation.

Duties and responsibilities

As a service provider to the Faculty of Engineering, the successful candidates will work alongside experienced professionals on the following activities:

  • Carry out intellectual property searches and assist with filing and maintenance of patents
  • Participate in promoting College’s capabilities and licensing portfolio and contribute to securing collaborative research and commercialisation income;
  • Assist with the development of commercialisation plans, due diligence, patenting, licensing deals, portfolio reviews etc.
  • Participate in relationship and network building
  • Assist with technology scouting
  • Support marketing, communications and event planning around tech transfer and innovation

Essential requirements

We are looking for applicants with passion for understanding the industry-academia collaborations and commercialisation. To be successful in this role you will have a background in physics, chemistry, computer sciences or engineering, preferably evidenced by a MSc or PhD. An understanding of the academic environment, and in particular technology commercialisation, preferably gained through previous experience of working within HEI or industry is highly desirable.

Strong delivery focus, excellent communication and administration skills coupled with a keen interest in technology transfer are also essential.
