Grants Officer: Manchester Metropolitan University

This is a great opportunity to join the Enterprise Programmes Team at Manchester Metropolitan University. The Enterprise Programmes Team are responsible for supporting activities around engagement with small to medium sized businesses and the development of SME programmes to encourage innovation and growth in the region. We are currently supporting a number of programmes part-funded by the EU; ranging from business growth support, specialist cyber security and fuel cell innovation.

The Department

The team is part of the Business Engagement department, one of four departments within the Research and Knowledge Exchange Directorate (RKE) that has a focus on working with industry – including local, regional and national businesses, public bodies and social enterprises – helping them to innovate and grow by jointly addressing business related challenges. Research and Knowledge Exchange is a (RKE) is a professional service Directorate, with responsibility for the central management and delivery of strategy through the provision of comprehensive support to academic departments in the development of; research income and wider research environment, impact & public engagement activities, business partnerships & collaborations and post-graduate research study. The team also supports the University’s growing provision for SMEs and widening regional activities across a range of sectors.

The Role

We are looking for a Grants Officer to join the team. The post holder will be responsible for all financial aspects of the ERDF funded AI Foundry project, in particular the compilation and checking of quarterly claims to the funding body in line with complex funding regulations. This will include managing budgets, monitoring expenditure, compiling and checking financial claims and reports, and the development, implementation and monitoring of a range of systems and procedures to ensure the project delivers the financial and non-financial targets set by the funding body.

Typically, you will:

Establish and maintain financial records using University systems for funded project activities, ensuring compliance with University and ERDF funding agency procedures and regulations.

Ensure that project monitoring and reporting mechanisms are implemented effectively, providing regular budgetary reports on spend vs profiled expenditure. 

Compile project claims and checks on eligibility of spend, in order to manage MMU’s risk.

Develop, maintain, and extend positive working relationships with various external stakeholders.

To be successful in this role you will have:

Extensive experience and advance skills in producing complex spreadsheets to manage expenditure

Experience of managing externally funded project budgets,  ideally for EU/ERDF programmes

Experience of using computer based accounting systems and dealing with financial transactions and procedures

The ability to deliver accurate work outputs under pressure and to tight deadlines

A high standard of communication skills with various stakeholders, including funders, auditors and government bodies

Demonstrable experience of managing workshops and events
