Director of Innovation & Engagement: University of Oxford

The University of Oxford is seeking a new Director of Innovation and Engagement.

Oxford is a world leader in research, engagement and innovation.  Our research portfolio covers an exceptionally broad range of disciplines and has a strong interdisciplinary character. Our work helps the lives of millions, solving real-world problems through a huge network of partnerships and collaborations. We are currently the most successful UK university in securing funding for research (£653m in 2020/21), including the highest income from industry sources. Our submission to REF 2021 had the largest volume of world-leading research. We are the leading institution in the UK (and amongst the most successful in the world) for the commercialisation of our research, having spun-out more than 200 companies. Through knowledge exchange (KE) we make a positive difference to the economy, to the environment, and to the societies in which we live.

The Director of Innovation and Engagement plays a central role in developing and delivering Oxford’s strategic ambitions around research engagement and partnership. As an exemplary and influential leader, they will work closely with the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Innovation) and other senior leaders, and represent and further the University’s related interests with a wide range of external partners at regional, national and international level.

The successful candidate will lead a growing team (currently 26 staff), providing outstanding professional support for KE, innovation and engagement to researchers and departments across our academic divisions. As a member of the Research Services leadership team they will contribute strongly and actively to the effective management, development and success of the overall unit and our talented and committed people, and will champion our values and commitments.

The successful candidate will bring to this senior role substantial experience and a track record of achievement and leadership in delivering outstanding support services for research and/or KE, and of facilitating major ventures and partnerships with a wide-range of stakeholders. Candidates will be an exceptional leader and manager, with a deep commitment to supporting and developing colleagues to succeed.

The postholder will be based at the Robert Hooke Building, Parks Road, Oxford and will be paid a competitive salary.
