Director, Creative Destruction Lab: University of Oxford

Saïd Business School at Oxford University is seeking to recruit a Director for its Creative Destruction Lab (CDL) – Oxford Programme, which is CDL’s first site outside of North America.

The Director manages the execution of the whole CDL-Oxford programme. This is a senior role with a major operations and relations management portfolio, running a team of between 10 and 17 staff, in the initial stages, who are responsible for the delivery of world-class entrepreneurship programming. It is a new role at the University and will be crucial to the successful delivery of the CDL.

The CDL, originally conceived at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management, is one of the world’s premier seed-stage programmes for massively scalable science-based ventures. The programme has created more than CAD$2bn (£1.2bn) in equity in less than 6 years, and has targeted companies that have the potential to transform our social, industrial and economic landscape.

CDL is now opening its first site outside North America, based at Saïd Business School, as a joint venture between Oxford Saïd and the Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences Division of the University. The Director will play a pivotal role in the establishment, management and performance of CDL- Oxford, working closely with the Site Lead and Academic Director, Professor Thomas Hellmann, as well as colleagues from across the University and at the University of Toronto at CDL-Global.

The successful candidate will be a highly effective leader, with the strategic capability to develop the centre’s future direction, as well as having a proven record of working with senior technology executives and angel investors. The new Director will also have the character and high-level operational and administrative skills needed to ensure the most effective management of the centre, its staff and financial resources. The new Director will be expected to create a healthy, long-term future for the centre within the context of Saïd’s growing number of entrepreneurship activities. S/he will also be qualified to degree level or equivalent.

This role is an amazing opportunity to join a newly established and growing team based within Oxford Saïd.
