Contracts Officer

The Research and Knowledge Exchange Directorate is seeking to appoint a Contracts Officer to join the Research Delivery Team.

About the Role:

As Contracts Officer you will manage aspects of contract negotiation for research and knowledge exchange activity across the University including  drafting, reviewing, negotiating  and advising on a range of lower-risk agreements and assisting colleagues with more complex matters.  You will also provide support to the Contracts Managers to ensure the provision of an efficient and effective service

The role also involves supporting the Commercial Development Manager in the efficient and effective management of the University’s Intellectual Property (IP) portfolio.

You will report to the Contracts Managers and work closely with colleagues in Research Delivery and the wider Research and Knowledge Exchange (RKE) Team to ensure all University RKE agreements are compliant with the University's financial and governance regulations.

About You: 

You will have knowledge of contract law and intellectual property law and ideally practical experience in negotiating and drafting contracts, having previously worked in a firm of solicitors or in-house providing legal services in a similar role.  Experience in a HE context is an advantage but is not essential. You will also:

  • Be able to liaise credibly and articulately with colleagues at all levels,
  • Manage a high-volume workload to meet high standards and client expectations, and work under pressure to meet precise deadlines.
  • Have the ability to work and communicate with accuracy and attention to detail is essential.
