Contracts Manager

A fantastic opportunity as a Contract Manager has arisen for an ambitious individual to join one of the most forward thinking and progressive universities in the country as Birmingham City University drives forward its programme of external projects within research, innovation and enterprise. 

Seen as an important appointment for continuing this success, the Contract Manager appointment will support the University in the provision of legal advice and services in relation to research, innovation and enterprise contracts in order to protect the University contractually in the delivery of external projects and services.

You will assist with the negotiation, review and drafting of contracts and other legal documents relating to external projects and services and to ensure that the University’s contractual obligations are both achievable and properly understood.  

You will be educated to degree level and will hold a relevant professional legal qualification or equivalent legal practice experience. You will have a knowledge and understanding of general contract law principles and awareness of key issues in contracts. You will have substantial experience and knowledge of contracts including the drafting, reviewing and checking..

You will have experience of working within an academic environment and an ability to assimilate and understand academic and technical issues and demonstrable knowledge and experience of procuring and/or managing contracts in respect of research, innovation and enterprise within the Higher Education sector and provide a highly professional client service.

You will have excellent networking, interpersonal skills with the ability to lead, negotiate, persuade and influence others in relation to complex contractual matters and a high degree of self-motivation. You will have highly developed written and oral communication skills including experience of the design and delivery of appropriate contract training. You will also possess effective planning and project management skills, as well as advanced IT skills.
