JOB AND CONTRACT TYPE:

Temporary, fixed term to end December 2021, full-time preferred, reasonable part-time considered.

LOCATION:

This position can be either office-based at EIT Food’s North-West Europe regional office (“Co-Location Centre” or “CLC”), located in Reading, UK or home-based with possible travel across the North-West Europe region encompassing UK, Ireland and Iceland.

DESCRIPTION OF THE ROLE:

To support the CLC company in developing communications materials to help to raise brand awareness of EIT Food in the CLC region (UK, Republic of Ireland, and Iceland). The role will include identifying key changemakers or ‘influencers’ within the CLC areas of focus (sustainable aquaculture, sustainable land management and childhood obesity) and developing a targeting strategy for the selected changemakers to form part of the regional communications strategy.

The role will identify potential media contacts and outlets within the CLC focus areas and functional areas to build on an existing media outreach strategy. The post holder will assist the CLC North-West Communications and Engagement Officer in effective communications strategy development and implementation.

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify changemakers i.e. ‘influencers’ within the CLC focus areas of childhood obesity, sustainable land management and sustainable aquaculture to bring onboard with EIT Food’s activities and wider mission. This will also include developing a changemaker targeting strategy to form part of the regional communications strategy.
  • Identify key media contacts, outlets and journalists within the CLC focus areas and functional areas (Innovation, Business Creation, Education and Public Engagement) to form a distribution list. This task will also include creating a targeting strategy for selected media contacts to form part of the regional communications strategy.
  • Support the Communications and Engagement Officer with upcoming regional events, such as a startup bootcamp in December 2021 to raise awareness of the EIT Food Seedbed Incubator Programme. This will involve managing attendee lists, developing promotional materials and liaising with key stakeholders.
  • Liaise with regional EIT Food Partners to support with promoting their activities on CLC channels. This task will also help to identify exemplar regional EIT Food projects to use as case studies in the future.
  • Other similar duties as required

Supervision received

Reporting to the Communications and Engagement Officer of CLC North-West, the post holder will receive one on one support, advice, and mentoring on an ad hoc basis. Additional regular supervision meetings will also be held to discuss portfolio of work, general issues arising in performance of duties, and ongoing support and professional development requirements.

The post-holder will also receive guidance and occasionally direct instruction from EIT Food’s Brand and Content Team where required.

Terms and conditions

This post is offered on a full-time fixed-term to 31st January 2021 basis; however, the company is open to reasonable part-time and/or flexible working arrangements where these are not detrimental to performance in the role.

Occasional overnight travel within UK and internationally may be required.

Ideally, the candidate has:

  • Existing knowledge of communications topics such as targeting, audience segmentation, content creation and branding.
  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills
  • Ability to influence and engage key stakeholders such as media contacts, external experts and events agencies.
  • Able to engage clearly, persuasively and with authority with business colleagues and third parties
  • Ability to use IT systems
  • Ability to take ownership of tasks, act independently responding to shifting priorities
  • Degree in relevant subject or discipline
  • Fluent in English

Beneficial skills or attributes include:

  • Higher degree in relevant subject
  • Knowledge of food systems health and sustainability challenges
  • Experience of working in a communications or events environment, preferably in Agrifood
  • Experience using content creation software such as Canva and Adobe InDesign.
  • Experience using social media channels for professional use.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure
  • Presentation and writing skills
  • Facilitation skills
