Commercialisation Manager: Babraham Institute

The Babraham Institute is situated at the heart of the Babraham Research Campus, near Cambridge. Our mission is to be an international leader in signalling, immunology and epigenetics with an emphasis on healthy ageing through the human lifecycle.  The Institute is committed to maximising the impact of its work in all areas of our society.  The KEC Team facilitates Institute impacts through collaboration with a range of stakeholders. In particular, we work with the commercial sector to translate our research and support the development of new technologies and new medicines.  

Babraham Institute Enterprise (BIE), the wholly-owned trading arm of the Institute, aims to maximise the commercial income from the Institute’s research through the development, protection and exploitation of the Institute’s IP portfolio. The Commercialisation Manager leads on these business development activities, responsible for identifying opportunities, understanding the market, determining the strength of the research, and implementing the best commercialisation strategy to move the research forward.  The post holder will be competent at building relationships with industry, licensing intellectual property and spinning-out companies etc.  

he Commercialisation Manager will be line managed by the Head of KEC and reports to the BI and BIE boards, Institute Director and the Head of KEC. The role also has line management responsibility for a KEC Officer and will be supported by the Contracts Officer.

The successful candidate will:

(i) be experienced in technology transfer, driven and proactive, with a strong scientific background relevant to the Institute’s research and

(ii) have the skills and ability required to translate and develop our innovative bioscience research portfolio.
