Would you like to be part of an exciting new Centre and an expanding team delivering research partnerships and collaborations with wide range of stakeholders and generating major impact across one of the UK’s leading National Centres of Excellence?
The PETRAS National Centre of Excellence for IoT Systems Cybersecurity (PETRAS Centre) is a strategic socio-technical research initiative funded by EPSRC on behalf of UKRI via the Strategic Priorities Fund, to provide a national capability that enables the UK to become a world-leader in IoT and associated systems security through new knowledge and deep expertise creation. The Centre builds on PETRAS’s work with 11 university partners and over 110 industrial and government User Partners, growing to an anticipated 20 university and 200 user partners, managing 60+ projects. It will operate as an autonomous centre, self-administering calls and funding contracts – operating effectively as a mini-funding body. The Centre will run two external Strategic Research Fund (SRF) – total £7m – calls that will be open to all UK HEIs, plus a responsive mode funding mechanism.
PETRAS is looking for highly motivated individuals with a passion for research and technology and an appetite to develop a career in business development and relationship management who will support the Centre’s engagement and research partnerships and collaborations with business and the public sector, with an aim to secure greater income and impact from relationships with User Partners, drawing on PETRAS university partners’ research and physical assets
Duties and responsibilities
The PETRAS Centre is currently recruiting two Business Partnership Executives: one vacancy at UCL and one vacancy at Imperial College London, however both will serve all PETRAS Centre university partners. They will report to the Directors of the PETRAS Centre.
The PETRAS Business Partnership Executives will work at the interface between the PETRAS Centre, its partner universities and their diverse academic community, government departments, research councils and the private sector. Together we are seeking increased User Partner engagement, research support and impact generation for the PETRAS Centre.
Impact is defined broadly as ensuring the Centre attracts and connects academics, experts and organisations together, and fulfils its aim of providing strategic national research capability in the cybersecurity of devices and networks at the edge of the internet, thereby providing real and measurable social and economic benefits to the UK. More specifically, as it pertains to this role, impact refers to the generation, development and maintenance of partnerships and collaborative research activities. The Business Partnership Executives are primarily responsible for acting as ‘Impact Champions’, leading on, facilitating and critically recording the benefits that have been realised as a result of this impact activity.
To achieve this, they will engage with existing and new User Partners, both directly funded and via public funders such as Research Councils and government departments. The post holders will also support the PETRAS Management team in coordinating the Centre’s relationship with its partners, seeking to maximise joint value across activities in research, education, translation, and policy making. They will identify opportunities for collaboration and impact, with responsibility for long term strategic relationships between tPETRAS and its User Partners.
The Business Partnership Executives will combine strong relationship skills with technical knowledge to converse with confidence with experts in both Corporate and University environments, across the subject domains of the PETRAS Centre. Having a strategic and analytical mindset, coupled with an understanding of the academic environment, research and product innovation processes, the post holders will support the delivery of significant funding income, business wins and impact generation.
