South Bank University Enterprise Ltd, the enterprise company of London South Bank University, is looking for a Business Development Support Officer (BDSO) to grow its commercial income and support the university in becoming the number one London Modern. The post provides an exciting opportunity to join the Research Enterprise and Innovation (REI) team to grow the university’s income generating activities while also supporting wider entrepreneurial activity and external engagement between business, academic research, students and professional services.

Working across our sector based Enterprise Institutes you will help foster novel collaborations, partnerships and innovative enterprise and commercial research activities.


Prior knowledge of Higher Education funding for commercial enterprise and research activity would be an advantage although full training will be given so is not essential. The BDSO requires administration efficiency, event and project coordination skills and an ability to adapt to a range of requirements dictated by the commercial opportunities being developed within Enterprise. Ideally you will have project coordination and administration experience in an HE research and enterprise environment or alternatively within a commercial based business development organisation. Experience of coordinating bid/ proposal writing and the use of financial systems is desirable. The post requires strong organisation and interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate effectively both internally and externally.


Other desirable attributes include;

  • Good technical skills base, with high numeracy, analytical and IT skills (especially Microsoft office), in addition to good written and presentation skills. 
  • Experience of developing and maintaining effective working relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Good coordination and organisational skills plus attention to detail
  • Flexible approach to work with the ability to prioritise complex workloads and manage changing priorities, whilst maintaining high standards of quality
