Business Development Manager (Senior Research Associate): University of Cambridge

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Senior Research Associate with experience of business development to lead and manage the commercialisation of selected services associated with the Cambridge Institute of Therapeutic Immunology & Infectious Disease (CITIID).

In the first instance, this will entail setting up the commercial provision of select services of the BRC Cell Phenotyping Hub, and in particular assays developed within the remit of the Cambridge Human Immune Challenge Facility. This could include:

  • Market evaluation and liaising with industrial and biotech partners to establish clear specifications for what services would be of most benefit to them.
  • Understanding and putting in place the necessary financial and legislative procedures to provide services on a commercial basis.
  • Advertising and promotion.
  • Assisting with the establishment and on-going management of quality assurance processes and procedures (ultimately to GCP level) and coordinating and delivering training to other Hub staff when necessary and in areas where compliance will be required.
  • Working with the Phenotyping Hub Director of Operations and associated staff to ensure the successful delivery of such services alongside the regular working of the Hub.

In addition, the role holder will be expected to identify and assist in the development of further business opportunities related to the research and work conducted within CITIID, as and when such opportunities arise.

Candidates will have a PhD, and ideally also have extensive research experience in immunology or associated fields. A proven record of working on technology transfer, marketing of technologies or scientific services, contract negation and intellectual property management will also be advantageous.

The role-holder will work within the recently opened Cambridge Institute of Therapeutic Immunology and Infectious Diseases (CITIID), based within the Department of Medicine. This is one of the largest departments in the University, comprising 600 staff, including 150 students and over 70 Professors, each involved in research related to human disease. Principal investigators are a mix of clinical and non-clinical scientists. The Department holds research grants totalling in excess of £145m (annual expenditure around £30 million). The Department operates from numerous sites around the Addenbrooke's Biomedical Campus and is expanding in size and scope.
