Business Development Manager (Science & Engineering): Queen Mary University of London

About the Role

We are looking to appoint a Business Development Manager (Science & Engineering) to support QMUL researchers in their relationships with businesses.  The role will support QMUL researchers to develop academic partnerships with businesses including applications to the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) programme and other commercially funded schemes.

The post-holder will support the academic community within the Faculty of Science & Engineering (S&E) to expand and deepen external relationships and enhance income generation through focused business development activities. The focus will be to facilitate industrial engagement for the Faculty through the development of collaborative partnerships via a range of Knowledge Exchange programmes including KTP partnerships, industry-sponsored Studentships and the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund (ISCF).

The role will require the post-holder to grow and retain existing business accounts and to facilitate industrial engagement and lead generation for a range of Knowledge Exchange programmes.  Reporting to the Senior Partnerships Manager (Science & Engineering), the post-holder will be part of an established Business and Partnerships Team of Queen Mary’s Research Services Directorate.  They will work closely with our academic community, providing a high level of client focus, to develop and maintain key partnerships and commercial opportunities. This will require the identification of business partners and funding opportunities; attending and organising relevant meetings and events; writing and supporting high quality research bids and advising on opportunities to further develop research and Knowledge Exchange activities.

About You

The successful candidate will have significant previous experience of Knowledge Exchange programmes within a Higher Education environment, exceptional communication and relationship management skills, alongside a proactive, creative approach to resourcing academic research. Ideally, you will have experience of working at the interface between public and private sectors, gained through working in a similar role in a research intensive University or commercial environment.

Queen Mary has a distinguished tradition in Science and Engineering and was one of the first UK universities to establish Engineering, Computer Science, Chemistry, and Materials Departments.  The Faculty today provides research and teaching excellence across Engineering, Science and Mathematics in five academic Schools: Biological and Chemical Sciences, Physics and Astronomy, Electronic Engineering and Computer Science, Engineering and Materials Science, and Mathematical Sciences.

The post is based at the Mile End Campus in London (excluding COVID-19 restrictions). It is full time permanent appointment, with an immediate start date. The starting salary will be Grade 6, £47,325 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
