Business Development Manager: Manchester Metropolitan University

University: Manchester Metropolitan University

Job Title: Business Development Manager

Salary: £42,792 - £49,553

Closing Date: 29th November 2021

A dynamic and driven Business Development Manager is required to join the Business Engagement team at Manchester Metropolitan University.

This is an exciting time to join Manchester Met. Since the development of our RKE Strategy in 2017, there has been an increased focus on high-quality, impactful Research and Knowledge Exchange. You will work with academics and other business engagement colleagues to identify opportunities for the development of commercial and grant income in order to achieve financial targets.

Role

This permanent role requires an experienced B2B Business Development Manager, with experience working within a Higher Education setting, to help deliver an ambitious strategy to increase knowledge exchange activities with external partners in the public, private and third sector.

  • You will focus on managing and extending relationships with business, public and third sector clients, thereby increasing and diversifying income streams from contract research, consultancy, KTPs, hire of facilities, growth of Intellectual Property income and other entrepreneurial activities.
  • You will play a co-ordinating role in working with business engagement and RKE (Research and Knowledge Exchange) colleagues on a wider university level.
  • You will have a strong commercial acumen and experience managing business development activities in a University setting.
  • You will provide support for the achievement of the University's Knowledge Exchange activities and targets.

Subject Matter Expertise

Our research is fundamentally interdisciplinary and innovative. You will work collaboratively with the wider business engagement team to jointly provide support to a broad range of disciplines and research specialisms. Our thematic areas of Knowledge Exchange expertise include Industry 4.0; the Circular Economy and Sustainability; Sport and Physical Activity; and Creative, Digital & Technology. More information on our 14 University Centres of Research and Knowledge Exchange can be found here. While the BDM team is structured to work across different academic disciplines as required, the initial focus for this role will be in the Faculty of Science and Engineering. It is also important that you have an understanding of, and experience working with, funders of innovation and enterprise such as Innovate UK.

Manchester Metropolitan University is committed to supporting the rights, responsibilities, dignity, health and wellbeing of staff and students through our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.

We promote applications from all sections of the community, irrespective of background, belief or identity, recognising the benefits that a diverse organisation can bring. We particularly encourage applications from Black and Minority Ethnic candidates, who we recognise are underrepresented in this area.

We recognise the benefits and importance of an environment that supports flexible working and are open to conversations about this throughout the application process.

Shortlisted candidates will be informed by mid-December and interviews are planned for the first week in January.
