Do you want to help deliver breakthrough medicines for cancer patients?

Cancer Research UK's Therapeutic Discovery Laboratories (CRUK-TDL) is our Research and Innovation drug discovery unit and has the principal focus of establishing and prosecuting biologically themed multi-project alliances with industrial partners. TDL is comprised of over 90 staff from both industrial and academic backgrounds, based at the Babraham Research Campus (Cambridge) and the Francis Crick Institute (London).

We bring together the best minds in basic and clinical cancer research, the diligence and drive of pharmaceutical and biotech companies, as well as our in-house drug discovery and Alliance management capabilities to deliver breakthrough medicines for cancer patients. Our laboratories therefore house all the necessary personnel and equipment to progress projects from initial hypothesis through to the selection of candidate drugs for regulatory development. We couple this with a deep understanding of academic and industrial drivers, enabling us to build alliances that satisfy the curiosity of basic research and the rigour of drug discovery.

Why we need you

At TDL we work together to deliver breakthrough medicines for cancer patients. We are currently recruiting for laboratory-based Scientists to support our established Alliances as well as developing new platforms and biological themes to expand CRUK’s Alliance portfolio. These roles will be working as part of the early-stage drug discovery process within the Target Validation and Disease Positioning group of Discovery Biosciences. In this flexible, inclusive and diverse environment, the development of our scientists is a priority. We place specific focus on both industrial and academic scientific skill sets so that you can shine as the next generation CRUK Research and Innovation talent.

Make an impact every day by:

  • Exploring and accelerating novel drug targets and biomarkers
  • Developing complex and dynamic cell-based assays to enable drug discovery projects
  • Performing small molecule characterisation and detailed mechanism of action studies
  • Working collaboratively and interacting with multi-disciplinary research teams, both internally and with world-class academic investigators and Pharma partners
  • Leading validation and Discovery project work

What skills do I need?

  • A PhD or BSc/MSc with relevant experience for the career level
  • Experience of cell culture techniques
  • Cell biology or molecular biology skills
  • Excellent communication skills with strong team ethic
  • Commitment, enthusiasm and a passion for learning
  • Problem solving, innovative drive and independent thinking for biological problems

What skills would be an advantage?

  • Immunology, Immuno-oncology, primary cell or complex cell assay experience
  • Cell engineering approaches such as CRISPR and lentiviral transduction
