Hi, I'm Stuart!

I'm Dr Stuart Wilkinson - Head of Knowledge Exchange and Impact, University of Oxford

A bit about my KE carer...

I have worked in ‘KE’ since I finished my postgraduate degree, starting in business partnering, public engagement and CPD, moving on to Technology Transfer in licensing and new venture creation at Oxford University Innovation. In 2012, I moved onto a central role supporting Senior Academic Leaders in coordinating the strategic development of Knowledge Exchange across the whole organisation. Along the way I have set up a Masters level programme for business, spun out a companies like YASA Motors, developed the business plan for the BioEscalator incubator, managed a team of KE professionals, led regional development innovation investment programmes, helped set up the Oxford Social Enterprise Partnership and coordinated the KEF. Most recently, I have supported the set up a new college at Oxford, Reuben College, which has a focus on Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

Something you might not know about me...

I like challenges ... whether it being cycling in Karakoram Mountains in Pakistan, competing in marathons and triathlons, or coping with my three children all aged under five. My biggest challenge a few years back was recovering from brain surgery for an abscess...which happened 10 days before our first child was born. And challenges these days revolve around keeping up with 3 year old twins and a 5 year old.

What I get out of teaching on PraxisAuril courses...

Volunteering as a PraxisAuril trainer always gives an opportunity to step back and reflect on my own role and experiences, consider where we can make improvements to how we operate. In addition it has broadened my understanding of KE and the KE community, developed my network, and most of all been great fun.

A little story about me...

Over the last 5 years we have been building a team that can support a variety of KE activities, and grappling with how best to manage a variety of different types of projects from across the KEF perspectives, from regional development projects, to policy in Humanities, entrepreneurship, Impact communication to running a small KE seed fund. In order to bring some commonality between managing these very different projects we developed a project management tool to help us to consider the project value proposition, project plan, resourcing needs, along with building in evaluation and communication from the start. This project design canvas has evolved to be a key part of the Foundations of KE course.
