The winners of the Impact Awards for knowledge exchange and commercialisation (KEC) professionals, run by Research Councils UK (RCUK) and PraxisUnico, were announced at a ceremony in Central Hall, Westminster, on 15th September, bringing together more than 200 invited guests from academia, industry and government.  

PraxisUnico responds to Dowling Review

PraxisUnico welcomes today’s publication of the Dowling Review of Business-University Research collaborations and in particular the recognition it gives to the role of technology transfer offices (TTOs) in the Review’s balanced and informed recommendations. We are pleased to see Recommendation 16 and the recognition that commitment to long term funding support (HEIF) for knowledge exchange and commercialisation will alleviate the pressures for short-termist revenue generation.

New PraxisUnico Chair announced at AGM: Report

At the PraxisUnico AGM on June 12 2015, Dr Sue O'Hare, RTTP and Managing Director, Kew Consultancy Services, handed over the Chair of PraxisUnico to Dr Angela Kukula, RTTP and Director of Enterprise at The Institute of Cancer Research, London. Angela has been on the Board of PraxisUnico for the last two years as Conference Committee Chair and brings a wealth of experience and expertise to now head up the Board of PraxisUnico.

PraxisUnico publish Strategic Plan 2015-2020

PraxisUnico today announced its Strategic Plan for 2015-2020. The plan highlights that over the next five years, PraxisUnico will work to:

* develop Knowledge Exchange and Commercialisation (KEC) sector skills within its member community and beyond

* promote KEC achievements to its key stakeholders

* connect KEC communities of best practice

* operate professionally, transparently and sustainably

RCUK and PraxisUnico announce The Impact Awards 2015 Finalists

RCUK and PraxisUnico are delighted to announce the shortlist for the 2015 Impact Awards for Knowledge Exchange and Commercialisation (KEC) professionals.The Impact Awards reward and recognise knowledge exchange, technology transfer and commercialisation professionals who have excelled in enabling and facilitating the achievement of impact from the outcomes of research.

PraxisUnico view on UK Patent Filing figures

The fall in the number of UK patents noted in the Thomson Reuters State of Innovation 2015 report is cited as a failure to commercialise research, but the number of patents filed is meaningless without knowing what percentage are granted, or noting how many registered patents make it to market.  The statistics are also skewed by the dominant position of the Chinese in numbers of patents filed but as pointed out recently by The Economist, those numbers are driven more by government targets than any “connection with the state of innova
