Place s will be offered on a first-come-first-serve basi s.\n \n  \;\n \n Is this course right for me?\ n \n The course is designed for people with some e xperience of licensing\, e.g. they have run a few smaller deals themselves or have been involved ind irectly in a larger licensing deal. Delegates  \;will probably have been working in a tech transf er role for somewhere between 12 months and 3 year s. \;\n \n Those with experience of research c ontracts\, even without direct commercial licensin g experience\, \;will also find this beneficia l &ndash\; although the focus of the course will b e on a stand-alone licensing deals\, licensing iss ues will often need to be addressed as part of a r esearch contract negotiation.\n \n The course is v iewed from the perspective of universities licensi ng their technology to industry (which may include to a spin-out company)\, but it&rsquo\;s equally valuable for those working in industry who are dea ling on the other side of the fence as it will ena ble them to understand the unique pressures that a university is under when licensing its technology . \;\n \n It may also be useful to those worki ng in funding bodies\, \;particularly those th at require or expect the universities to undertake some form of commercial exploitation of the work to better understand the complexities and difficul ties of striking a licensing deal.\n \n This is a natural follow on course to Fundamentals of Techno logy Transfer\; \;indeed\, many of the topics introduced there are developed further in this cou rse.\n \n Delegates are not expected to have any l egal training\, but a basic understanding of IP wi ll be beneficial.\n \n  \;\n \n Why should I a ttend this course?\n \n \n Licensing is a common route for knowledge exchange\, but the complexitie s can make this a slow and painful process. \; \n Licensing early stage technology is often diff icult. \;Universities in particular face uniqu e challenges on the terms they can accept when lic ensing their IP that industry is not always aware of.\n This course will give the delegates the too ls they need to better structure their licence dea ls and give them the confidence to negotiate the k ey terms.\n Licensing is not just relevant for th e &lsquo\;big ticket&rsquo\; tech transfer deals\;  \;licence terms are often included in researc h funding agreements\, collaboration agreements\, etc.\n \n \n  \;\n \n What will I learn from t he course?\n \n \n Learn how to formulate a licen sing strategy (which will include a financial stra tegy)\n Understand the key issues in a licence ag reement and how the principles inter-relate\n Gai n confidence for negotiating the terms of a licenc e agreement\n Understand and be able to assess th e risks of &lsquo\;less than favourable&rsquo\; te rms.\n Explore both successful and unsuccessful l icensing case studies and identify what worked and what could have been improved.\n Learn how to ma nage the licensing relationship post-signature.\n \n \n The course also focuses on networking\, prov iding a valuable platform to meet peers\, discuss best practice\, and interact with the course team and other contributors.\n \n  \;\n \n PLEASE N OTE: There may be a requirement for delegates to u ndertake some pre-course work/reading before the c ourse begins.\n \n  \;\n \n What makes this co urse different to others available in the sector?\ n \n PraxisAuril is able to deliver this training from the unique perspective of KE practitioners.
